Souled Out is the debut album by Jhené Aiko, released on September 9, 2014 through Def Jam Recordings. The first 12 tracks make up the standard edition of the LP. View the deluxe album cover here. In an interview with The Fader, Jhene stated the record’s concept: It’s like a path. You’re going to see an evolution by the end of the album, a girl going through heartbreak and being confused, in a dark place, and then [emerging] enlightened and grown up through these experiences. It’s real life. A growing girl. When asked to explain what the lyrical content would be for the album she also had this to say: Boy stories. Life lessons. Philosophies. Truths. I feel like every song has some secret about me. I try to keep it very open and honest.
