Statik KXNG (stylized as STATIK KXNG) is the eponymous debut album by duo STATIK KXNG, consisting of KXNG Crooked and producer Statik Selektah. It was released on February 12, 2016 (although the entire project was recorded throughout the year prior in 2015) through Apple Music and Spotify by Penalty Entertainment and Selektah’s label, ShowOff Records; it was also distributed by RED Distribution. All of the tracks were produced by Selektah. The only feature is rapper Termanology who is also signed to ShowOff and is in the duo 1982 with Selektah, appearing on ”Let’s Go”. The album received mixed reviews by music critics and fans alike. On Apple Music, it has a four out of eight overall rating with sixty-six individual reviews. HotNewHipHop gave it a overall five out of five stars with twenty-one individual votes, stating that the duo ”can’t miss” and besides the Termanology feature, ”take it the distance by themselves”. HipHopDX gave it a three out of five overall rating with an additional negative review: A seesaw of sound from start to finish, Statik KXNG finds itself in position to fall through the cracks–a mediocre album with a few highlights created by two esteemed Hip Hop veterans. While each is known for their own respective skill set, their struggle to consistently find a balance between their differing sounds leads to a project that lacks consistency, and will ultimately make fans crave their solo work, and not a future collaboration.
