Believe is the third studio album by Justin Bieber, released on June 15, 2012, through Island Records. The project marks a transition from the teen pop sound of his debut releases My World (2009) and My World 2.0 (2010) toward a more mature sound, incorporating elements of dance-pop and contemporary R&B. During its creation, Bieber recorded over 40 songs and selected a final tracklist from his preferred material.
The album was first teased in early 2011 through a series of social media posts referencing the title Believe. Although Bieber released the Christmas album Under the Mistletoe later that year, work on Believe continued throughout 2011 and early 2012. The album’s artwork and tracklist were officially revealed in April and May 2012, respectively.
Believe was released internationally between June 15 and June 20, 2012, across Europe, North America, and Asia. The standard edition consists of 13 tracks, featuring collaborations with artists such as Ludacris, Big Sean, Drake, and Nicki Minaj. Several deluxe and regional editions include additional tracks and remixes.
Six singles were released from the album, including “Boyfriend,” “As Long as You Love Me,” and “Beauty and a Beat.” “Boyfriend” became one of the album’s most commercially successful singles, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
Commercially, Believe debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 374,000 copies, becoming Bieber’s fourth chart-topping album in the United States. It also reached number one in several countries, including Canada and the UK. The album received multiple certifications worldwide, including multi-platinum status from the RIAA.
