The State vs. Radric Davis is the sixth studio album by Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. Released on December 8, 2009, it is the follow-up to his December 2007 studio album Back to the Traphouse, and caps off an incredibly successful 2009 run that included several mixtapes and popular singles. The album is his first release under Warner Bros. Records.
Boasting 20 tracks, The State vs. Radric Davis includes a slew of notable guest appearances, with USHER, Lil Wayne, Trina, Keyshia Cole, Jadakiss, and more all featuring on the album. It was preceded by three singles: “Wasted,” “Spotlight,” and “Lemonade.” Two promotional singles, “Worst Enemy” and “Heavy,” were also released to promote the album, and the track “Bingo” was sent to US radio stations on January 12, 2010, as the album’s fourth and final single.
The State vs. Radric Davis received generally positive reviews from music critics at the time of its release. It is now regarded as one of Gucci’s best albums, as well as one of the most important releases in his discography, as it marked his ascent into the mainstream music scene.
A sequel to the album, titled The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted, was released on September 28, 2010. Originally, the title was supposed to be The State vs. Radric Davis: The Appeal, and would have been followed by The Verdict, completing a trilogy of albums; however, the third album was ultimately scrapped. A separate sequel to The State vs. Radric Davis, titled The State vs. Radric Davis 2: The Caged Bird Sings, was released on December 25, 2013, as a commercial mixtape.
