Bad 25th Anniversary - Michael Jackson
Bad 25th Anniversary

Bad 25 is the third posthumous album released by Michael Jackson’s estate, preceded by Michael and Immortal. Like Thriller 25, this issue was meant to replace the 2001 Special Edition and other reissues of Bad, all of which are subsequently discontinued. Released on September 18th, 2012, 25 years and 19 days after its original, Bad 25 contains “Streetwalker”, the Spanish “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” (“Todo Mi Amor Eres Tu”), and “Fly Away”, which were previously released on the 2001 reissue, but the Quincy Jones Interviews and Spoken Word Intro to “Fly Away” were left behind. “Don’t Be Messin' ‘Round”, which failed to make Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, and HIStory, gangster-funky “Al Capone”, the scratched Pepsi theme “Price of Fame”, and the anti-abortion “Song Groove (aka Abortion Papers)” were also on the 2nd Disc. Bad 25 saw a significant difference in remixes than Thriller 25 (3 to 9), possibly because Thriller 25’s remixes were heavily criticized. Pitbull and Afrojack’s “Bad” remix, a DJ Buddha edit of that, and the Nero-remixed “Speed Demon” were also unfavorably criticized as well. In addition to the standard 2-Disc set, A Target-exclusive DVD of all of Bad’s music video and a CD/DVD Live at Wembley July 16, 1988 were made available. A Spike Lee-produced and directed Bad 25 documentary was premiered at the Venice Film Festival and then on ABC. Sony produced a two-hour tribute special Bad 25: The Short Films of Michael Jackson aired on BET. “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” was re-released as the lead single on June 1, 2012, with its B-Side “Don’t Be Messin' ‘Round” coming as Single #2 on June 5, Afrojack’s “Bad” on August 14, and “I’m So Blue” on October 1. The combined singles and promotion efforts contributed to making Bad the 12th Best-selling album in recorded history.
