Members Only, Vol. 4, although officially credited to XXXTENTACION, is the fourth compilation by South Florida collective Members Only. The album was released on what would have been X’s 21st birthday. X was murdered at gunpoint on June 18, 2018. Following his death, members and affiliates of Members Only vowed to honor X’s legacy with the release of this compilation. Craig Xen first confirmed Members Only, Vol. 4 on June 30, 2018. He continued to post the following images on his Instagram story. Following these posts, Ski Mask, Kin$oul, and other group members posted a snippet of “Empty.” Over the next few months, various members of the collective continued to tease the project, but a timeline of release was unclear. On November 7, 2018, DJ Scheme, an affiliate of Members Only and one of X’s closest friends, confirmed that SKINS was not X’s final album and was only the first of multiple posthumous releases. On January 9, 2019, XXXTENTACION’s estate officially announced the project’s release date. The teaser video was reposted by several members and associates of Members Only and contained a clip of X’s singing on “XXX,” the introduction to Members Only, Vol. 2. Upon the album’s release, it was revealed that “XXX” was sampled on “Corey’s Intro.” On January 21, 2019, several members and associates of the group posted the compilation’s artwork and tracklist.
