Still 1982 - 1982
Still 1982

On the third official release in their “1982” collaboration, producer Statik Selektah and rapper Termanology set out to do what the Lawrence, MA vets do best: bring the boom bap sound of the golden era into the present day. “It’s definitely filling a gap right now of just fun, traditional East Coast Hip Hop,” Statik said. “No extra hype or gimmicks. Got some fun guests on it.” Statik’s signature soul-heavy sampling and Term’s versatility across subjects provide the basis here, augmented by Chris Rivers, Beans, Nems, Conway, Kendra Foster, Crimeapple, and others. The danger of being backward-looking is falling into a formula. “I love making the 1982 projects with Statik because we have a formula we use and it always works,“ Termanology told HHDX. "We always have a couple conceptual songs, some really grimy, disrespectful songs, a radio song or two, some boom bap beats with scratches and a little R&B with some updated topics lyrically. We not tryna jump on every wave. We just stick to doing what we do best and doing it at the highest level.” Whether the formula works here as well as it has in the past is up to the listener.
