Radio - LL Cool J
Radio

Radio is the debut album by American rapper LL Cool J. It was released on November 18, 1985, by Def Jam Recordings and Columbia Records. It was also Def Jam’s first full-length album release and sold over 500,000 copies within its first five months of release. With assistance from production from Rick Rubin, Radio’s beats involve minimalist production, DJ scratching, often brief samples, and emphasis on the downbeat. LL Cool J’s aggressive b-boy lyrics explored themes of inner-city culture, teenage promiscuity, and braggadocio raps. This album, along with Run-D.M.C.’s self-titled debut album, are credited for pioneering the sound of rap rock and paving the way for the new school sound of the late 1980s, turning away from the disco-influenced sound of rap artists such as Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow.
