Amplified - Q-Tip
Amplified

Amplified is Q-Tip’s debut solo album and the most commercially successful to date. Coming right on the heels of the newly-defunct A Tribe Called Quest’s embattled The Love Movement album in 1998, Q-Tip signed with Arista Records and released Amplified on November 30, 1999. Taking a more mainstream-aimed approach than ever the album picked up momentum from the success of “Vivrant Thing,” the first rap song to ever go #1 on Billboard’s R&B Airplay chart. Tip followed it up with the equally strong “Breathe and Stop”. The full album mostly produced by Q-Tip and Jay Dee featured almost no guest appearances, and delivered an energetic evolution of his sound developed with A Tribe Called Quest. The album was certified gold, selling over 675,000 copies.
