His early childhood in VA then moving to Compton in the late 80’s and early 90’s exposed him to the rival gang cultures of the Crips and the Bloods. His mother was a singer who performed at local and national cabarets, instilling in Rio and his younger sister a drive for greatness. In 2008, the family suffered a blow when Rio’s aunt he lived in California with died unexpectedly. Rio has built a following of fans in the DMV area who love his sound and the positive vibes he radiates. He is currently working on new music and is gearing up for a busy year of performing. Blackwood is an artist who is unafraid to speak his truth. He comes from a place of genuine honesty and understanding, using his platform to give voice to the reality of life for many people.
